CAST YOUR VOTE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF LOCAL 100 LEADERSHIP.
TWU-Local 100 has been sliding backwards for far too long.
With this coming election, Local 100 members have the opportunity
to reverse the course our union has been following.
The Take Back Our Union slate will seek to protect
every job. We will launch a full-scale fightback against
layoffs. We will build a union which has the capacity to defend
our livelihoods against management.
TBOU is determined to bring our union back to life. We will
organize rank and file transit workers to resist management's
attacks and re-establish TWU-Local 100 as a union of workers which
aggressively defends our benefits and working conditions.
We
are a broad coalition representing a wide range of experiences and
diverse viewpoints. Unlike our opponents, we welcome
conflicting opinions. We know that no individual and no faction of
the union has all the answers Local 100 needs to accomplish our
goals. Bringing a variety of voices to the table will strengthen
us all. We don't agree on everything - but what we DO agree is
that:
-
Members -
not arbitrators - should decide our contracts. When Toussaint
sent the contract to arbitration, no one on the
Toussaint/Tate/Watt team stood up for the member's right to vote.
-
Management -
not the members - should pay for medical benefits. The
Toussaint/Tate/Watt team supported the 1.5% Toussaint Tax and
believes capping it will be a victory.
-
Members
should be represented by the officers they elect. The
Toussaint/Tate/Watt team supported Toussaint when he removed
elected officers from their duties merely for speaking their
minds.
-
A strong
union presence is needed on the job. Under the regime
Toussaint, Watt and their supporters, the stewards system has
withered and management has stepped up its abuse of our members
and violations of our contract.
-
Most of all,
we agree that OUR UNION IS WEAKER NOW THAN IT WAS 10 YEARS AGO.
The strength of our union is not measured by its bank accounts, by
the number of calls made by its phone bank, or by the numbers at
an amusement park. Our strength is measured by the willingness of
its members to stand together against management and the readiness
of the union to lead them in that fight.
We've come
together to
Take Back Our
Union.
And we ask you to join us in making that happen.
