Take Back Our Union (TBOU)
is committed to the ideals and practice of
community activism. We believe that unions should function as part
of the community, helping to improve the lives of members not only
at work, but in all aspects. By building partnerships with other local unions, worker centers and community groups, we help address the issues that impact working class people and their communities, including civil and workers' rights, affordable housing, anti-war campaigns, single payer health care and improving defined pension plans for union workers.
One of our earliest efforts was forming a coalition with CUNY students to fight tuition hikes, budget cuts and staff cutback, and with the riding public to fight fare hikes and service cuts.
Since then, TBOU has worked with the
Bail Out The People Move ment
opposing budget cuts and layoffs of public sector workers, as well as forclosures and evictions, and the Private Health Insurance Must Go (PHIMG) Coalition, organizing against health care cutbacks, and for the passage of
HR676,
in support of Single Payer Insurance.
