Take Back Our Union (TBOU) is a rank-and-file movement initially founded by several members of Stations Department in May 2008 to address the TWU-Local 100 dues check off crisis and the 2009 MTA/TWU contract. TBOU has expanded its goals to include the unlawful firing of elected union officers, the lack of transparency by union officials, and changes in the by-laws based on votes by only 1/8th of all members -- representing just 5,000 out of 38,000 votes.
As a group, we seek accountability and transparency in all major decisions that affect the membership, and union democracy overall.
TBOU also builds partnerships with other local unions, worker centers and community groups to address the issues that impact working class people and their communities. TBOU is committed to the struggle of health care as a human right as well as saving and improving defined pension plans for union workers.
